This mouthpiece has a larger chamber, based on a Gregory Chamber Design, which gives it a warmer overall sound quality than the standard Meyer hard rubber alto.  The larger chamber also requires a bit more air to make it really play well, but it will provide a fat core and resonant sound, characteristic of the great players of the 60's.

This is a vintage "New York USA" Meyer hard rubber alto mouthpiece in very good condition.  I added a mouthpiece patch since I didn't want the bite area to get damaged.  It looks like it was used for only a very short while since it's condition is really quite good.

It is a #6 facing with a Medium Chamber and Medium facing length.  This is one of THE mouthpieces that most every alto player really wants!!

This mouthpiece looks a lot like a vintage Conn Steel-Lay with a different name on it.  Store branding was as common in this era as it is today and this was likely made for a specific store in Los Angeles, California.

It has a short shank and metal table rails and tip fused onto the rubber.

A vintage Noblet hard rubber alto mouthpiece made in France.  These look very much like the vintage Vito pieces with a different name on them.  This one is an N2 facing.  These mouthpieces usually play quite well.

A solstice signals the change in the seasons, just as this mouthpiece marks a departure from the traditional jazz alto setup.  The Solstice harkens to the days of the ”West Coast” school of sound, made famous by such greats as Art Pepper, Lee Konitz, and Paul Desmond.  The sounds and styles of these greats inspired the creation of this mouthpiece.

The Meyer and Meyer Brothers Alto saxophone mouthpiece has been the mainstay of Alto Players for over half a century. For years these were carefully hand faced.  Unfortunately, current production models lack the precision and attention given to those of past legend. The Phil-Tone Meyer is a corrected and customized version of the current Babbitt Meyer.  The table is flattened, the throat is slightly enlarged, and a proper facing is applied for ease of play and rapid response. The result is a classic mouthpiece with a rich tonal palette that is never shrill or thin. Expect deeper lows, a strong midrange, and highs that project with clarity and resonance.

I have repeatedly played these pieces back to back with absurdly priced NY Meyers and they stack up every time every time in both playing experience and in the ears of critical listeners.  There are slight differences but certainly not a three hundred, five hundred, or thousand dollar difference.  Dont get caught up in the vintage hype, there is another way.

These play great so, if you like that Meyer sound and want a piece that is better faced and responds better, this is the alto piece for you!

Hard rubber "Excalibur" alto mouthpiece in very good condition in original container. Light teeth marks on bite area and some scratching on the emblem area from a ligature.   These play very well and were hand crafted by Ralph Morgan who worked for Selmer before making his own mouthpieces.

Since Ralph recently died, these older models are going to be very hard to get!

Hard rubber jazz alto mouthpiece in very good condition in original container. Very minor teeth marks on bite area.   This one has "B" on the mouthpiece which probably indicates a B stock model that had a slight flaw in it.  From what I can tell, the flaw is very minor and at the lower right corner of the window.

Since Ralph recently died, these are going to be very hard to get!  No cap or ligature included.
